Care Instructions
1) keep the watch clean
2) visit the service regularly to check for water resistance
3) have the automatic movement cleaned and oil changed regularly (done as part of general maintenance, every 2-5 years)
4) try to avoid strong shocks
5) Do not expose the watch to unnecessarily hot or salt water
6) for quartz watches, keep an eye on the battery life
For watches, follow the rule - don't turn the hands in the opposite direction, don't turn the date-day between 12 and 4 am (there is a risk of damaging the movement).
HOW TO CARE FOR AN AUTOMATIC/MECHANICAL WATCH?
MANUAL WINDING
During normal wear, automatic watches wind themselves due to the movement of the wrist. However, if you do not wear it for a long time and it stops, you will need to set the time and wind the watch manually for the first time before using it again. To do this, simply turn the crown about 20 times towards 12 o'clock.
For watches, follow the rule - don't turn the hands in the opposite direction, don't turn the date-day between 12 and 4 am (there is a risk of damaging the movement).
RUNNING RESERVE AND WINDING RESERVE
Every automatic machine has a certain running reserve. The watch must be worn for at least 8 to 10 hours a day to maintain the manufacturer's power reserve at its maximum. If you put your watch away for longer than its current power reserve, it will stop and you will have to readjust it before wearing it again. For example, if you put a watch with a power reserve of 28 to 42 hours away on a Friday night, it will no longer work on Monday morning.
If you don't wear your watch every day and want to avoid having to set the time repeatedly, you can get a winding device from us. In it, the watch moves and thus continuously winds. On Friday evenings, you simply place it in the winder and set the desired rhythm. The watch is wound over the weekend and is ready for use on Monday morning.
REGULAR SERVICING AND ULTRASONIC CLEANING
Mechanical movements require regular servicing and checking by authorised workshops - only in this way can you ensure accurate operation within the permitted differential for the model or brand. Compared to quartz movements, mechanical watches are much more sensitive to various factors such as gravity, shocks during normal use, magnetism, vibrations or temperature changes. For greater variation in operation, we recommend a service visit. As with quartz watches, it is a good idea to have a mechanical watch ultrasonically cleaned at least once every 1-3 years.
ULTRASONIC CLEANING
Not only will the service replace the battery and check the watch's seals, but it can also clean the case and bracelet in an ultrasonic bath. To maintain the attractive appearance of your watch, it is a good idea to have it cleaned in this way at least once a year.
The ultrasonic treatment not only helps to remove all the dirt from the case and bracelet, but also prolongs the life of the watch, especially its moving parts. This is doubly true for the bracelet, as dirt that settles inside can cause excessive friction between the parts and damage them.
Mechanical watches
This type of watch movement requires more attention than other movements. Always take the watch off your wrist when winding it down. Regular servicing should be a matter of course for these types of watches, ideally every 2 to 5 years.
It should be remembered that these types of watches are less resistant to shock and jolts and also have less accuracy than battery-operated watches.
Mechanical watches require regular winding, while automatic watches need to be kept running by activity, by wearing. The power reserve on full winding is a minimum of 42 hours, then they need to be re-wound or worn. Fully winding the watch does not guarantee it will be worn all day during sedentary work or low activity, in short it depends on the movements of the hand on which you wear the watch.
Quartz watch battery
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
The movement of a quartz watch is battery powered and therefore does not need to be wound. However, the battery does need to be changed periodically, and at the latest after the end of its service life. This is usually no longer than two years.
Always have the battery in your watch replaced at a service centre. Never try to replace it yourself at home. The battery life is around 24 months (remember that the watch was made much earlier than you bought it, so the battery may have been in the watch longer). However, the lifespan depends on various factors, such as the type of movement used. A watch with a chronograph will use more power than a watch without one. Always have a non-working battery removed as soon as possible. If it is inside the watch for too long, it can cause serious damage to the movement.
CARE OF THE RINGS
If you plan to use your watch in water or suffer from excessive sweating, be sure to avoid the leather strap. Leather is not friends with water, so steel or rubber straps are preferable in this case.
The lifespan of leather straps under normal conditions of use will last about a year, year and a half. After this period, we recommend replacing it with a new one.
The elasticity and colour of leather is mainly affected by humidity, skin acidity, sweat, chemicals, sunlight, level of wear.
